Abstract:

The Moroccan population is characterized by an important dynamism. Thus, it is manifested in the development of a set of demographic indicators such as the population, fertility index, mortality rate, population growth rate, the nature of the age structure, and others. To examine this subject, we followed the quantitative method by employing digital data and data based on studies and field research carried out by the High Commission for Planning as well as a number of national and international institutions. We also used other methods in this study, such as the comparative method and the descriptive and analytical methods. These approaches enabled us to reach the following conclusions:

The Moroccan population has known a tangible development, represented by a high birth rate and a low death rate, with clear discrepancies between rural and urban areas. These developments also resulted in a strong urbanization movement, mainly caused by the strong migration phenomenon.

The age structure of the Moroccan population was characterized by the dominance of the active class represented by the youth category, but without investing in development, which made the state facing major economic and social challenges. This structure has begun to undergo radical transformations, represented mainly by the increase in the elders’ category and the decline of the youth category, which portends serious repercussions on the future development of the country.
